Roodekrantz Die Messelaar 2020
About the Wine
Chenin Blanc from farm Brandenburg old dry land bush vine planted 1975 and irrigated Chardonnay from Diemerskraal. Mostly decomposed granite soil. Grapes were handpicked early morning, destemmed crushed and settled overnight. After settling the juice was transferred to older barrels with initial spontaneous fermentation. One barrel went through malolactic fermentation. Following extensive lees contact the wine was racked and returned to same barrels for further development until early December 2020. Total time in barrel approximately 10 months.
The wine has a light straw colour. Complex nose of vanilla and cream caramel toffee with elegant lime notes. A zest lime entry on the palette with stone fruit. Lovely white peach flavours embedded in creamy vanilla caramel. Well balanced fruit and acid result in a long lingering finish. Ideally served at 10-14 °C to allow full expression of flavours.
